Full Range Hydroseeding Services

At Queensville Sod Farms, we offer several hydroseeding services for a healthy lawn. These include lawn establishment, pasture planting, reclamation, erosion and sediment control, and storm water management.

Hydro Grass

Using hydro grass for lawn establishment ensures that the grass seed is evenly distributed and germinates quicker. It’s also more cost-effective than traditional planting and chokes out potential weeds from growing. Another benefit is that it promotes good soil quality and prevents erosion. Our hydroseeding lawn establishment is for both residential and commercial properties, and is also perfect for parks, sports fields, highways, and many other areas.

Pasture Planting

Our pasture planting services ensure that your animals get the best hydroseed grass for grazing. By introducing high quality species, you can rest assured that your pastures will increase their productivity. Hydroseeding is also available if you’re looking to produce high quality hay.

Reclamation

Sometimes the land becomes disturbed or degraded over time.  It can be disturbed because of activities such as construction and mining. It can also happen because of disasters such as oil spills and wildfires. The land can also degrade over time due to natural causes like erosion or due to neglect as is the case with landfills. Through our reclamation services, we restore vegetation to disturbed or degraded land.  By reclaiming these areas, we can improve soil quality and restore wildlife habitats, promoting biodiversity and beauty.

Erosion and Sediment Control

Our stormwater management hydroseeding service prevents soil erosion and sedimentation. We get rid of ruts and trenches along slopes and embankments caused by soil erosion. Not only does this prevent future erosion and landslides, but you also get a beautiful, well-maintained landscape out of it.

Additionally, it reduces stormwater runoff and filters out pollutants. This leads to better water quality, which supports sustainable development. This makes it the perfect choice for construction sites, drainage swales, highway embankments, and stormwater ponds.

Hydroseeding is appropriate for a wide range of properties. It works best in:

Commercial & Residential Hydroseeding

Hydroseeding is a method of planting grass, wildflowers, or other vegetation that involves mixing seed, water, fertilizer, and mulch together in a tank and then spraying the mixture onto a prepared soil surface using a specialized hydroseeding machine. The resulting mixture forms a layer of nutrient-rich mulch that helps to retain moisture and protect the seeds as they germinate and grow.

Trust the Hydroseeding Process

Hydroseeding is often used in landscaping and erosion control projects, as it can cover large areas quickly and provide a more even distribution of seed and fertilizer than traditional planting methods. It is also effective in areas where traditional planting methods are difficult or impossible, such as steep slopes or hard-to-reach areas.

One of the primary benefits of hydroseeding is that it can be customized to suit specific soil and climate conditions, as different seed varieties and fertilizers can be used to meet the needs of different plant species and soil types. It is also a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional planting methods, as it requires less water, labor, and equipment.

Overall, hydroseeding is a versatile and effective method of planting vegetation in a wide range of landscaping and erosion control projects. Its ability to cover large areas quickly and customize the seed and fertilizer mixture makes it a popular choice for both residential and commercial applications.

FAQs

How much does hydroseeding cost in Ontario?

Generally, hydroseeding in Ontario costs anywhere from $0.10 to $0.25 per square foot. A lot of factors determine the cost. These include your property size, the types of seeds and mulch used, the terrain, location access, and site preparation.

What are the advantages of hydroseeding?

The benefits of hydroseeding include uniform seed distribution, faster seed germination, decreased soil erosion, and lower cost compared to traditional planting methods. You can also cover larger areas of land more efficiently.

What are the disadvantages of hydroseeding?

While hydroseeding is more affordable in the long run, especially over large land areas, the upfront cost is typically higher than traditional planting. It also requires more careful maintenance before the first mow.

Another disadvantage is that adverse weather conditions affect the success of growing hydro grass. Hydroseeding is also not well suited for terrain that is extremely steep or rocky. It also has the potential to introduce non-native seed species to an area that competes with native species.

These disadvantages are minimized by using a reputable hydroseeding company and ensuring proper planning, preparation, maintenance, and monitoring throughout the hydroseeding process.

Is hydroseeding cheaper than sod?

The initial cost of hydroseeding is often more expensive. However, when you consider the necessary maintenance, especially over large land areas, it is more cost effective.

These disadvantages are minimized by using a reputable hydroseeding company and ensuring proper planning, preparation, maintenance, and monitoring throughout the hydroseeding process.

When is the best time of year for hydroseeding?

The best time for hydroseeding is either spring, late summer, or early fall. Generally, you want the temperature to be between 65 and 75 degrees for the first six weeks of hydroseeding. The soil is warm enough for the seeds to germinate well. The temperatures are also milder, meaning there’s less additional water and mulching needed to account for heat and evaporation. Additionally, the hydro grass grows faster during those seasons.

How long does hydroseeding take?

The actual application is pretty quick. Germination takes between five and ten days, and you’ll see a full lawn anywhere between three and five weeks.

When will I start to see results of hydroseeding?

Grass typically germinates within five to ten days. If cared for properly, it should reach about three inches in about a month. This is all dependent on climate conditions.

When can I start to cut the grass?

You can mow your grass for the first time when it gets to three inches. This takes about four to six weeks.

How do I maintain my hydroseeded area?

You’ll need to keep the area moist for a few weeks, giving it at least one or two inches of water per week. You’ll also need to apply fertilizer every three to four weeks. After the initial six weeks, you can then mow the lawn. Stay off the hydroseeded area until the mulch dries for the first time. After that, minimize walking on it until your first mow.
